The Word Lab begins in the fall of the academic year. Initially funded in part by a $20K grant from the National Writing Project’s Innovator Challenge Grant, The Word Lab currently operates as part of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, serving grades 6-12 in an after-school program where students work on their writing with the assistance of community writing mentors. Sessions meet weekly for each of the schools for a total of nine weeks. On Monday holidays, sessions will be held Thursday of the same week. The Young Writers Program’s Chamber of Heart & Mystery installation has moved to Branciforte Middle School. Now on display adjacent to the Word Lab at the Museum of Art & History is Librería Donceles.
