The World Lab begins in early October of the academic year. Initially funded in part by a $20K grant from the National Writing Project’s Innovator Challenge Grant, The Word Lab currently operates as part of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, serving grades 4-8 in an extended day program where students work on their writing with the assistance of community writing mentors. In its first year, The Word Lab served Gault and Bay View Elementary Schools and Branciforte Middle School. The Chamber of Heart and Mystery is located next door to the Word Lab.
Schools participating during the 2017-2018 academic year are:
Branciforte Middle School – Mondays
De LaVeaga Elementary – Tuesdays
Mission Hill Middle School – Wednesdays
Session 1: Oct. 2 – Dec. 7
