LETTERS TO INANIMATE OBJECTS: Mountain Elementary

This project takes place in two classrooms simultaneously

Title: Letters to Inanimate Objects
Description: Students will be writing love letters in the form of poetry between inanimate objects (Google poet Sarah Kay’s Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire). Teachers Kim Dudley and Heather Young have developed a well-structured curriculum that will provide students (and WPAs!) with an engaging way to get from prose to poetry.

Description: this project is a collaboration with Museo Eduardo Carrillo. Students will use the artwork of Latino artists to inspire their personal narratives on community. The project will result is a full-color, hardback book of student writing paired with artists’ work.

Description: Students wrote narratives about something particular in the world that they think needs changing. Pieces from their narrative were used in the creation of a poem.

Description: After choosing a family member to interview, students created questions and interviewed a relative. They composed a personal narrative that described not only the answers to their questions but which also included their response to the questions.
